So how do I learn to dive?
We’re happy to hear you’re interested in becoming one of the thousands of
people who learn to scuba dive each year. Diving is stimulating, rewarding, relaxing...and fun!
Let us show you how to get started in diving. Our
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) course will provide you with the knowledge to safely enjoy the
recreation of scuba diving. You will be introduced to the world underwater and will learn how to adapt yourself to it through the proper use of diving
equipment, skills, and safety procedures. Upon completion you will receive a
PADI International
Certification Card (C-Card) that will allow you dive throughout the world by letting you rent scuba gear, take dive trips and get air fills.
 This primer will give you information about our regularly scheduled classes. Private and special group lessons are available upon request. Should you have

Course Structure
1. The PADI Open Water Diver course is:
Performance-based. This means that you can progress by meeting learning requirements. Divided into three segments:
Knowledge Development (classroom), Confined Water Dives (pool), and Open Water Dives.
2. The course is taught in five confined water dives and five knowledge development sections (three each for Scuba Diver). You meet the
requirements for each before moving on to the next.
3. You’ll complete most of your knowledge development at your own convenience by reading the manual and watching the video
or DVD,s. When we meet, a short quiz tells me how well you understand the material; then we’ll review any areas where you have difficulty and I’ll
fill in information specific to diving around here. After the last section you’ll take a final exam that makes sure you remember everything you’ve learned throughout the course.
4. We’ll make four scuba open water dives together (two for Scuba Diver), during which you’ll apply what you’ve learned, plus develop some new
skills. But we’ll spend a good bit of time exploring and looking around, too.
Course Requirements
1. Attendance requirements. Performance based requirements and the need to complete each section and session in order.
2. Independent study,
Prior to each class, watch the Open Water Diver
DVD's or Videos and complete the reading, exercises and Knowledge Review questions in
the Open
Water Diver Manual. I will then look over your Knowledge Reviews when we meet for the
first classroom session. Students need to bring their
book to all classroom sessions.
Equipment requirements
Mask, snorkel, fins, booties,
weight belt and mesh gear bag is required.
All the required diving gear needs to be bought here at Amarillo
Scuba Ctr..
Class Size: Maximum of 10 to a class with one instructor and necessary teaching assistants
(Assistant Instructors, Divemaster, and dive control specialists).
Age Requirement: Minimum of 12 years of age. (It is requested that children under the age of 15 be accompanied by a parent.) No maximum age, but good general health is required.
Swimming Ability: Competency and the ability to feel comfortable in the water is stressed more than endurance. Swim evaluation will consist 200
yards of the pool or (new option) swim 300 yards with mask fins and snorkel.
Open water fee of $158.00 for the weekend. This open water package includes use
of:
7mm
semi-dry wetsuit
Hood
2 Tanks
80cu/ft 3000 psi air.
Regulator with submersible pressure gauge console w/compass, and alternate air source
Buoyancy control device (BCD) with power inflator
Weights
for your weight belt
Dive with an
Instructor for 2 days.

Internationally
SCUBA Certified for life.
Licensed to
dive anywhere.
Year round Open
Water training dives will be done at Blue Hole in Santa
Rosa New Mexico. Water temperature stays 62
degrees year round.
